Don’t break the mirror The other day I was working a horse from the ground , Me walking alongside him with the long whip tapping his hind leg in the “CLASSICAL” tradition . At one point the horse exhibited real classical tendencies and instead of lowering his hind legs and piaffing, he performed a near perfect capriole with the backwards kick that missed the arena mirror by a 100th of a millimetre . The owner of the yard a leading rider known worldwide for his excellent riding skills AND his razor sharp tongue shouted nervously from the far end of the school “DAVID if this horse break my mirror I will PERSONALLY MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 7 bad years in which Serena (the Mrs) will withdraw all matrimonial privileges for the duration”. On the return home, laughingly I relayed to the Mrs about the day’s work and what the leading rider said. The Mrs gave me one of her special looks reserved for no negotiable circumstances and said “ you tell the B,,,,,,r to mind his own business I have no intention of doing it as OFTEN as this!!! However many meddles he won”
